THAILAND

Longtail boats are a common way to travel between islands in Thailand. Pulling them onto the beach on Pod Island, Krabi, Thailand requires some determination and skills, along with a cooperating surf.

 

The Karen ethnic group is one of the largest hill tribes in Thailand, with almost a million people. Karen women, like this one near Chiang Mai, have used brass neck rings as a symbol of beauty for centuries.

 

The Yi Ping Festival is one of Thailand’s most spectacular events, held on the night of the full moon on the 12th lunar month every year. Thousands of lanterns are released in unison, in a visually stunning scene.
