Malta Pride, a vibrant celebration of love, diversity, and equality, stands as one of Europe’s later pride events, taking place annually in September.

Over the years, it has evolved into a highly anticipated gathering, offering a safe and inclusive space for the LGBTIQ+ community to celebrate their achievements and advocate for rights not only within the Maltese islands but also across borders.

Allied Rainbow Communities (ARC), was founded with the aim of fostering a sense of community and promoting equality and acceptance In 2014, ARC formed a collaboration with MGRM to jointly organize Malta Pride which saw a record participation of 3,000 people, mostly from the LGBTIQ+ community. From 2016 until present, ARC took a lead coordinating role in organizing Malta Pride Week and the March. While Malta has made significant strides in terms of equality reforms and civil liberties, ARC believes that laws and rights are only one part of the equation. Their mission extends to Pride events, communications, community engagement, and networking, with a vision to make Malta a highly attractive destination for LGBTIQ+ individuals to visit, work, and live.

Reflecting on the journey of pride in Malta, it’s remarkable to see how far the movement has come. From humble beginnings with just 50 demonstrators at the first-ever Pride March in 2004, Malta Pride has grown exponentially, with 13,000 participants in 2022 and a staggering 38,000 in 2023 during EuroPride Valletta 2023.

This year, Malta Pride 2024 promises to be a monumental celebration, dedicated to honoring the history of pride in Malta and celebrating the progress made. Scheduled to take place from the 6th to the 15th of September, the ten-day program boasts a diverse array of events catering to all tastes and interests.

From an opening event to various discussions, a mini-conference, cabaret, drag performances, open mic nights, and concerts, there’s something for everyone. Two Pride Marches, one in Gozo and one in Malta, will bring together individuals from all corners of the islands to march in solidarity and pride.

Each day of the event is packed with activities designed to engage, entertain, and inspire. From community discussions on LGBTIQ+ active aging to conferences on human rights and workplace inclusion, Malta Pride 2024 aims to address important issues while celebrating the vibrant diversity of the community.

For the past eight consecutive years, Malta has proudly held the title of #1 on the Rainbow Europe Map & Index, a testament to its unwavering commitment to equality and acceptance. The inclusion of anti-discrimination laws in the Maltese Constitution in 2014 marked a pivotal moment in the quest for equality for the LGBTIQ+ community. Since then, Malta has consistently led the way in ILGA-Europe’s annual review of the human rights status of LGBTIQ+ individuals in Europe.

Beyond its progressive stance on LGBTQ+ rights, Malta boasts a myriad of attractions for visitors. With 300 days of sunshine per year, stunning beaches, hidden bays, and a wealth of cultural landmarks spanning over 8,000 years of historyโ€”three of which are UNESCO World Heritage sitesโ€”Malta is a treasure trove waiting to be explored. Add to that its vibrant nightlife and thriving social scene, and Malta emerges as the ultimate destination for LGBTIQ+ leisure, business, and cultural pursuits. Yet, what truly sets Malta apart is its unparalleled hospitality and acceptance of the LGBTQ+ traveler. Although the gay scene might be small, you’ll be overwhelmed by the warmth and hospitality extended to you at every turn.

As you navigate the island’s vibrant streets and stunning landscapes, you’ll discover a sense of belonging that transcends borders and barriers. Whether you’re lounging on pristine beaches, exploring ancient ruins, or dancing the night away in bustling clubs, Malta welcomes you with open arms.
