priority list: THREE ROMANTIC HOTEL GETAWAYS

THE WESTIN PLAYA BONITA PANAMA PANAMA CITY, PANAMA

I was a little nervous and a bit hesitant about going to Panama with my partner for a romantic three-day weekend getaway. I knew that The Westin Playa Bonita Panama was just 20 minutes outside of Panama City and about 30 minutes from the Panama Canal. I knew that the romantic resort offers a beautiful retreat right on the sands of Playa Bonita Beach, with the Pacific Ocean literally steps away from its doors. I also knew that the property had everything my partner loves: three infinity edge pools; six incredible restaurants serving different kinds of delicious cuisines; and The Sensory Spa by Clarins. The one thing it had that I knew my partner would not like is the Kids Club, but I decided we could take a chance that the children there would be as well behaved as our son always had been.

We enjoyed dining in all six restaurants. My partner’s favorite meal was the beef fillet infused with Latin spices served at Tierra y Fuego. My favorite was the curried red snapper served at Asiana, although we had favorites from every restaurant.

We also had steamy workout sessions in the Westin Workout Fitness Studio. The space was immaculate, well-maintained, and had the latest, modern equipment.

The Westin Playa Bonita Panama

The Spa here is amazing and not too expensive. I recommend the couple’s massage that can also be taken outdoors in the fresh open-air among the sounds of the Pacific waves. The infinity pools were refreshing, and the beautiful beach was glorious. It’s more of a rock/pebble beach rather than a “let’s go for a dip” kind of a beach, although that didn’t stop us from enjoying it. The rooms are modern, chic, and sexy. The private balconies allow for some romantic interludes, if you know what I’m saying.

On day two, we came across a group of children. My eyes looked up from my magazine, knowing that this was the moment I was dreading. My partner let out a long sigh and jumped into the pool. I told him I was going to get a couple of piña coladas, and I would join him in less than ten minutes. In the near-distance, I could see the banner for the Kids Club. When I returned I heard all this splashing and laughing and I thought that my romantic getaway was officially over. As I approached the pool, I saw my partner, other adults, and about seven children playing pool volleyball. He was having a great time and shouted to me, “Put those drinks down and hop in, we need another player!” www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/ptybwthe-westin-playa-bonita-panama
